Session 6: Demonstrations and Videotapes of Speech and Natural Language Technologies

چکیده

Harvey Silverman, from Brown, showed a video illustrating signal and noise separation using microphone arrays. Such algorithms can improve speech recognition performance in noisy environments and free the user from the close-talking microphone. Not surprisingly, algorithm performance in a realistic environment with reverberation noise is not as good as the theory predicts, and much research remains in this area.

Spoken Language Systems II

The papers in this session were concerned with higher-level processing in speech recognition systems and, in some cases, the interface between the speech-recognition and natural-language components of a spoken language system. The session consisted of talks from four DARPA sites, Dragon Systems, SRI International, BBN Systems and Technologies, and MIT Lincoln Laboratory. These talks were follow...

Session 1: Spoken Language Systems

Without the ability to interpret natural language, speech recognition is suited only for a subset of tasks (though certainly not trivial ones), such as data entry, simple commands or dictation. Similarly, without speech recognition natural language is restricted to the interpretation of written language, a stylized form of human communication. Spoken language systems thus represent an attempt t...

Reprint — 1991 DARPA Workshop on Speech Recognition and Natural Language — p . 1 ANALOG IMPLEMENTATIONS OF AUDITORY MODELS Richard

The challenge of making cost-effective implementations of auditory models has led us to pursue an analog VLSI micro-power approach. Experiments with the first few generations of analog cochlea chips showed some of both the potential and the problems of this approach. The inherent exponential behavior of MOS transistors in the subthreshold or weakinversion region leads to nonlinear filter circui...

Speech difficulties in Joubert syndrome

Introduction: "Joubert syndrome" was first introduced in1969. This syndrome is a rare genetic disease with autosomal dominantpattern. Hypotonia, ataxia and motor delay of the disease known as clinical manifestations. In the few reports of this syndrome, mostly functional and structural components studied and radiographic images such as speech and language developmental delay symptoms has been l...
